  • Examine the components of a comprehensive oropharyngeal evaluation and testing options for HPV oropharyngeal infections.
  • Explain the health disparities within the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Identify who and why within the LGBTQIA+ community are most at risk for HPV OPC.

Both Jonathan and Susan had been there, knowing they needed to share crucial information about the Human Papillomavirus/HPV and oropharyngeal cancer/OPC with their patients but not knowing where to start. They discovered they had the same approach: “Just do it!”  Join Jonathan Jones AAS, RDH, and Susan Cotten BS, RDH, OMT, for this engaging program about HPV. Susan will explore HPV, the HPV cancer vaccine, and the crucial elements of a thorough oropharyngeal assessment in a comprehensive head and neck evaluation. Jonathan will examine the challenges LGBTQIA+ individuals encounter when being treated by healthcare professionals and identify who is most at risk for HPV OPC within this demographic. Together Jonathan and Susan will share strategies to talk confidently with patients about HPV and oropharyngeal cancer.   Attendees will be inspired and equipped to discuss HPV and OPC. They will understand the risk of HPV infections in the LGBTQIA+ community, and have a solid knowledge of how to perform a thorough oropharyngeal evaluation, including testing options for persistent HPV oropharyngeal infections.
